Partial Dentures

Missing several teeth but not all of them? A well-designed partial denture restores your chewing and your smile affordably — without surgery and without touching healthy enamel.

Fill the Gaps, Balance the Bite

When several teeth are missing, everything that remains works overtime. Teeth drift into gaps, chewing concentrates on fewer surfaces, and the bite slowly collapses into problems far more expensive than the original missing teeth. A partial denture is often the most efficient way to restore balance: one removable appliance replacing multiple teeth — even scattered across both sides of the arch.

Types of Partial Dentures

Cast metal partials. The durable workhorse: a thin, strong cobalt-chromium framework carrying natural-looking teeth, gripping precisely with small clasps. Slim, stable and long-lasting.

Flexible partials. Made from resilient gum-coloured nylon-type materials with no metal at all — a favourite for visible areas and for patients sensitive to metal.

Acrylic partials. The economical option, often used as a transitional appliance while gums heal or while planning implants — a practical way to smile through an interim period.

Which is right for you depends on which teeth are missing, the health of the remaining teeth, aesthetics and budget. We'll lay out the options with honest pros, cons and prices.

What Getting a Partial Involves

We start with a thorough exam — a partial is only as good as the teeth that support it, so any gum issues or needed repairs come first. Then precision impressions, a framework try-in to verify the fit, tooth selection matched to your natural shade, and delivery with careful adjustment. Expect a follow-up visit or two to perfect comfort; that's part of the service, not an extra.

Partials, Bridges or Implants?

There's no universal answer — a bridge is fixed but suits shorter spans; implants are the premium long-term investment; a partial covers the most ground for the least cost and keeps future options open. Many patients start with a partial and add implants later. We'll give you the straight comparison, including what your insurance actually covers — we bill all plans directly and accept the CDCP.

Partial Dentures — Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a partial denture and a bridge?

A bridge is fixed in place permanently and replaces a short span of teeth; a partial denture is removable and can replace many teeth across the arch, even on both sides at once. Partials cost less and don't require shaping other teeth, but bridges and implants feel more like natural teeth. We'll walk you through the comparison for your mouth.

Will a partial denture be obvious?

Modern partials are designed so clasps hide out of the smile zone wherever possible, and flexible, gum-coloured materials blend in remarkably well. Most patients' partials go completely unnoticed.

How long does it take to get used to a partial?

Usually a couple of weeks. Speech adapts within days, chewing takes a little practice (start with softer foods, use both sides), and small sore spots are normal early on — we adjust them quickly, so don't tough it out.

Can I sleep with my partial denture in?

We recommend removing it nightly. Your gums need rest, and soaking the partial keeps it clean and fresh. Consistent nightly removal also reduces the risk of gum irritation and fungal issues.
