The Transformation Tool
When a front tooth — or six — carries multiple problems at once (colour that whitening can't fix, a chip, a twist, an edge worn flat), porcelain veneers solve them all in a single restoration. Each veneer is a slender shell of layered ceramic, crafted by hand for one specific tooth, bonded permanently to its front surface. The result rewrites your smile's colour, shape, length and symmetry simultaneously — which is why veneers anchor most dramatic before-and-afters, including several in our smile gallery.
Are Veneers Right for You?
Veneers shine when:
- Whitening has hit its ceiling — deep or internal discolouration (tetracycline staining, old root canals) that bleach can't reach
- Shape and colour both need work — the two-birds-one-stone scenario
- Edges are worn or uneven and youthfulness has drained from the smile
- Multiple small flaws add up — a chip here, a gap there, one twisted tooth
- You want the result to last — porcelain outlives bonding roughly two-to-one and shrugs off coffee
They're the wrong tool when alignment problems are significant (consider Invisalign first — sometimes instead), when a single small chip could be bonded for a tenth of the price, or when grinding is untamed (we'll address that first). Expect this candour at your consultation; veneers are permanent, and our job is making sure you never regret them.
The Veneer Journey
Design first. Photos, models and your input become a design you can preview — a mock-up you can wear, photograph and sleep on before committing.
Preparation. A conservative half-millimetre or so of enamel is reshaped under local anesthetic; you wear well-made temporaries shaped like the design while the porcelain is crafted.
The reveal. Each veneer is tried in, checked in daylight, adjusted for bite, then bonded permanently. The mirror moment is worth every step.
The protection. A night guard if you grind, normal brushing and flossing, and regular hygiene visits. That's it — no special maintenance.
Start with the conversation, not the commitment. Book a veneer consultation or call (613) 491-3300 — and bring every question you have.
Porcelain Veneers — Frequently Asked Questions
How many veneers do I need?
Whatever your smile shows. Some patients transform everything with two; the common choices are four, six or eight across the upper front teeth, matched seamlessly to the naturals beside them. Symmetry usually matters more than quantity — the design consultation answers this precisely.
How long do porcelain veneers last?
Typically 10–15 years, and often beyond with good care — porcelain resists stain and wear beautifully. A night guard is wise if you grind; like natural teeth, veneers dislike being slept on by a clencher.
Do veneers ruin your natural teeth?
Modern veneers are conservative — typically only about half a millimetre of enamel is reshaped, and sometimes less. It is a permanent commitment (the tooth will always need a veneer or crown), which is exactly why we insist on previews and honest discussion of alternatives like bonding or Invisalign first.
Will veneers look natural?
That's the craft. Quality porcelain layered with translucency and subtle surface texture is indistinguishable from enamel — the dead giveaway 'chiclet' look comes from flat, opaque, over-white veneers, which we simply don't make. You'll approve the exact shade and shape in preview.
